Tretton talks about Home

There is an interview with Sony CEO Jack Tretton where he talks about home. It isn't a particularly encouraging talk either. I really don't like the following line,

Quote:
"I would rather ship it two years from now and have it populated by a lot of neat stuff and be competitive than open something that is a ghost town,"
I assume he is just exaggerating and that it won't be nearly two years and it will be more like early 2009.

It seems like a major cop out if Home gets delayed again. I presume that are meeting major development issues with some parts of it and hence him BSing on about development of software and hardware.

Wasn't home meant to have been released by now?

I think it was supposed to launch in October as an ongoing Beta version just like Gmail.

And in brighter news for Home.

Quote:
SCEE boss David Reeves insists that Europe not play second fiddle to Americans when it comes to social network service

Whilst Sony’s PS3 conference failed to offer any additional concrete information regarding an arrival date for its much-hyped PS3 social network service Home, SCEE boss David Reeves has at least assured Europe that it will get access to the promised beta at the same time the US does.

It’s common for the European PSN network to receive games and new content quite a while after it’s arrived in North America – fortunately, this will apparently not be the case with Home.

Reeves went on to add the release date for the beta is still autumn this year, as has been previously asserted, and added that he expects SCEI to announce a final release date shortly.
