Upgrading HDD on PS3

Has anyone here put a new HDD in their PS3? On a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult is it, with 10 being the hardest?

Its just a standard HDD isn't it? Should be easy as pie as long as you get the right HDD type.

I think its kind of funny that Sony didn't release a special SKU for people that already had HDD's.

They should have said, a HDD is compulsory to play games but you can buy one without a HDD if you have one lying around.

Could have even said they were helping the environment by recycling peoples old HDD

I've been looking through guides on the Internet and it looks fairly easy. I've been thinking about it and I think I will wait till I actually need the extra space. No point in spending money now if I don't need to.

So I upgraded my PS3 HDD today. I got the HDD from elara.ie. It was a 320GB Western Digital HDD for €80. It was flagged on boards.ie in the bargain alerts section.

It was pretty easy to install but I got a bit of a fright when it didn't boot up after I installed the HDD. I thought that the system software was stored separately from the HDD and changing it wouldn't affect the OS. In the end I had to download the 2.41 OS from the Sony website and reinstall it on the PS3 via a USB memory stick.

Its up and running now and with 8 times the storage space

Plus it is still running just as quite.
