Upgrading HDD on PS3 Has anyone here put a new HDD in their PS3? On a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult is it, with 10 being the hardest?

Its just a standard HDD isn't it? Should be easy as pie as long as you get the right HDD type. I think its kind of funny that Sony didn't release a special SKU for people that already had HDD's. They should have said, a HDD is compulsory to play games but you can buy one without a HDD if you have one lying around. Could have even said they were helping the environment by recycling peoples old HDD ![]()

I've been looking through guides on the Internet and it looks fairly easy. I've been thinking about it and I think I will wait till I actually need the extra space. No point in spending money now if I don't need to.

So I upgraded my PS3 HDD today. I got the HDD from elara.ie. It was a 320GB Western Digital HDD for €80. It was flagged on boards.ie in the bargain alerts section. It was pretty easy to install but I got a bit of a fright when it didn't boot up after I installed the HDD. I thought that the system software was stored separately from the HDD and changing it wouldn't affect the OS. In the end I had to download the 2.41 OS from the Sony website and reinstall it on the PS3 via a USB memory stick. Its up and running now and with 8 times the storage space ![]() Plus it is still running just as quite.
