| Congratulations! I've been mulling over picking up a PS3 for a few weeks myself (although I'm keeping my 360.) There's only one thing holding me back, and I can't seem to find a straight answer on it. I went so far as to e-mail Sony support this weekend to see if they'll actually come up with a satisfactory answer. My hitching point is backward compatibility. I too have owned both an original PS and a PS2 (still have them both, actually.) My PS2 (one of the original "fat" units that Sony launched, not the later slim jobs) is likely on its last legs. It's literally being held together with a bungee cord. Needless to say, when it finally bites it, I don't want to be stuck with my thumb up my hiney with all the PS2 games I have. And I sure don't want to have to invest another $150US on another PS2 just to play my old games. Now, Sony seems to have gone to some lengths to publish a compatibility list on their website. Hooray! Then I find out that only some models (apparently only distinguishable by the size of the HDD when sold) will offer the BC support, while others will not. Pardon my French, but WTF? Either you do, or you don't, Sony! Which is it? Give me the right answer, and I could be dropping another >$500US into your coffers. Otherwise, to hell with ya, and I'll just keep playing my XBox until you get your heads out of your collective corporate butts. I'm not going to pay some fat-cat company money only to make my existing library obsolete. So 40, maybe you can tell me. What's the deal with BC on the PS3? Will it do like the XBox 360 and download the "patches" or dos update or whatever to make older games work, or only if you have the right (apparently older) console? Thanks in advance, and good luck with the new console! |

| BC has been pulled from the newer models, it was only in the launch models AFAIK. They said they would do backwards compatiblity using emulation but it has yet to appear. |

| 40GB has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games, only with PS1 games. 80GB uses software emulation which is compatible with some games (see the list on playstation.com)

| Actually I don't have any plans to buy MGS4. I played one of them on the PS1 and I didn't like it. I'm sure now I wouldn't have a clue where the story is and I don't fancy reading through the newly released database on it. Plus I'd say the gameplay is the same so I probably wouldn't like it anyway. |

Well, that blows. Most of the 80G units in the states are sold out, and when you can find them they want >$500 (US) for them. Looks like I wait a while longer and see if they become more uniform by the end of the year. Stoopid Sony. Eventually they're going to wear me down (especially when FFXIII is released), and I'll wind up dropping the drachmas on it anyway. Darn them. Darn them all to heck. /rawr |

| You know I actually thought you were my brother. He changes his Gamertag nearly every week and always has 1992 in it. I don't keep up with what gamertag he is. I had about 9 on my list with 1992. |
