I spent about an hour playing on user created levels tonight and I am blown away by the quality of some of the stuff that has been created. My favourite level so far has been one based on a bank robbery. First you meet a character who asks you to break into the bank and another character will give you the code to the vault later on. Following this there is some good platforming action that is very well thought out. There are some baddies to escape along the way too.

When you get to the end you will find four slots in the ground with six dice lying around. If you put the dice in the right slots to match the code you break the vault and beat the level. Very clever, especailly since the Beta is only going on for about 48 hours. There was also a big button near the end with a big sign saying 'Do Not Press'. I didn't but I was tempted, I wonder what would have happened?

Other levels including Dinoland were just as impressive. Also some of the racing levels are really good fun, short but fun.

I'm not saying that all the levels are good, indeed some are boring but the potential is massive.

I was only thinking last night what would happen to all the created content once the beta ends. Would it be available when the retail version launches? Well my question has been answered by the PS BLOG.

Quote:
This version does not require a DNS redirect and levels created here will be available for consumers at launch of the full title.
I'm glad they are keeping the stuff because I'm sure the levels by the end of the beta will be even more impressive than they are now.

I started work on my first LBP level tonight. There is so much stuff to learn and so many things that can be done can be a little overhelming at first. After messing around for a while with the very basics and watching a few tutorials I committed some ideas to paper.

I working on it now but at this rate it is going to be a while before I publish it. I'm glad to report though that the doing the creative part is still really great fun. Just doing stuff to see what happens if you attach 'A' to 'B' and tweak 'C', it is cool.

I'm just so glad they included a rewind button. I tweaked a piston on my level a bit too much and it snapped back and broke through the platform it was attached to and caused my entire level to collapse. It was funny to watch.

My ***** level got banned

Well Media Molecule said that none of the stuff created in the beta will be available in the retail game. A couple of the best levels will be ported over to the retail game though

You need to remove some of the c*cks and put in some miniature American flags

I wish we could get confirmation of this. Some reports say that the levels will not be available once the beta ends. However, on the offical Playstation Blog they say that the levels will be playable in the retail version. I'm spending a lot of time on a level at the moment and I don't want it to just disappear.

I imagine you can play your level but it will disappear from the servers and you'll have to upload it again assuming a copy is stored on your HDD aswell.

That sounds reasonable.

I got an e-mail from Media Molecule the developers of LBP and in it they mention that levels created during the beta will be accessible from the retail version. This is good news but I think I should get the level I'm working on published before the beta ends, just in case.

I'm nearly ready to publish my first level on Little Big Planet. It has been a struggle at times to get things working and I've taken a couple of things out that I had planned. They will be brought back and put into other levels that I will make.

I've made a basic platforming level. I haven't tried to build any big machines or complex mechanisms into my level. I want to have the full game before I start trying things like that. I wanted to build something simple and fun (hopefully). Having nearly completed it now I think it is perhaps a bit too simplistic but hey, it is my first attempt.

My wife has enjoyed playing LBP so I'm getting her to test the level. And damn, if she isn't good at breaking it. She is doing stuff that you wouldn't expect, I suppose it is because she isn't a gamer. I am going through it now to add in cosmetic items making it look better and more polished. Although there is still a couple of gameplay kinks to work out but I'll get that done in the next session.

------------

I've spent a good few hours with the editor and it is amazing. Anything is possible, just check out the GAF forum post on the beta and you will see some incredible creations. The interface is so simple to use, which is impressive given the amount of functions at your disposal. It is a testament to the quality of the work done by the designers on the project.

The physics in the game are very impressive but at times it is just so unforgiving. I've made a few things and then when tweaking something on one side of the level I've dropped something heavy and the bounce has knocked other things over. It can be frustrating at times but they do give you the option to turn of physics when building. A handy option but you do need it on more often than not.
