Problems connecting ps3

I have this 23 inch philips tv in my room Direct TVs : Philips 23PF4321 23 inch HD Ready LCD TV 23PF4321 - Cheap Plasma TVs, Cheap LCD TVs, Cheap HDTV and Cheap TV Accessories

It only has one hd connection, fooking DVI

I bought a hdmi to dvi adaptor yesterday, but for some reason I can only get either picture or sound, not both at the same time.

When I go to sound settings, and select sound through hdmi, it says "this hdmi device cannot be used for audio output", I can get sound through scart but I have to change to AV, and then i lose the picture.

Would buying an optical cable work?

I can get both picture and sound through scart in SD but it looks ultra crappy.

thanks in advance.

Philips

Shane I have a similar philips and have had the same problem. Heres how I get sound, don't know why but this works for me.

Turn on both, select AV on tv, move blade about on 360,if you get sound, which I do with no picture, select PC on TV and mine works. Not great at explaining this mostly cause I don't understand why it does this, But it works for me.

Yeah thats how I get my 360 working, but the ps3 comes up under the HD heading, not the PC heading because it's HDMI, im not sure if the tv will support it

im in the same boat as you shane my tv doesnt have hdmi ,it has dvi and vga. with the ps3 you can select different outputs for video and sound so i have video out through hdmi which goes through my dvi port and i use the regular ps3 connection for sound by putting it through a surround sound system. the reason you cant get both through the hdmi is because only an hdmi connection can carry both hd video and sound dvi can only carry video

I dont have a sound system so the optical cable seems to be the only solution that might work. what connection does the cable go into, dvi audio in?

There's a dvi audio in slot but i never used it. I use a vga to dvi adaptor on the 360, and get my sound through scart. but the scart wont work with the hmdi adaptor

the dvi audio slot is on the bottom, it's exactly like a headphone jack, i plugged in earphones to test it and they fit it perfectly.
