Retro hurrah for franchise fans...
The scheduled release of Halo 3 this winter has most Xbox owning FPS fans wishing the year away...
But this week Bungie have also reminded us to take a look back, with the confirmation of two new maps for Xbox Live's most played game ever, Halo 2!

document.write('');
These latest battlegrounds are a retrospective homage to the first title in the franchise, re-imaging two popular arenas from the original Halo; Hang ‘Em High and Derelict. Now entitled Tombstone and Desolation these aren't just, in Frankie's own words, "a port of an old map, but rather, a lovingly crafted last salute to Halo 2 multiplayer as we move toward Halo 3 in the fall."
Super!
'But why are they still bothering with Halo 2, I want to play Halo 3 now, shouldn't they be concentrating on that?' we here you cry. So do Bungie, and Frankie explains the decision to continue work on their current gen wonder; "because we love Halo 2 and we love our fans. They’ve continued to play Halo 2 solidly for three years, in vast numbers, and we owe them it. Pulling the plug on Halo 2 (metaphorically, it won’t simply vanish when H3 arrives) without giving the fans Hang ‘Em High would have been, well, rude."
Good manners are free, but these two new maps are not.
For full details on how to pay for these revamped killing fields (set for release on April 17) as well as an in-depth look at both, click here. But first tell us if this level of commitment to a title should be adopted by more developers in our comments box below.
