There have been angry scenes between motorists at a petrol station which is giving away £20,000 worth of fuel.
Electronic Arts has taken over the Last Stop garage in Finsbury Park, north London, to promote the game Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.
By 0730 BST, more than 150 customers had taken advantage of the offer, which allows drivers to put up to £40-worth of fuel in their tanks for nothing.
The promotion will continue until the £20,000 of fuel runs out.
Security staff are on hand to control the traffic and deal with rowdy customers.
And they were needed as tempers were starting to fray during the rush-hour.
Genius idea
A queue of about 30 cars snaked its way from the petrol station as more and more customers arrived for their free fuel.
Car horns sounded repeatedly as drivers on the other side of the road got snarled up in the congestion.
But customers filling up for nothing were very happy.
Prince Davis, 37, who queued patiently for a quarter of an hour for free petrol, said: "This is a genius idea, whoever thought of this should be promoted.
What an extraordinary thing to do, it's totally irresponsible
Local resident
"I'll definitely be buying the game, you're never too old to play computer games."
Louise Marchant, from Electronic Arts, said the scenes of queuing mimicked aspects of the game.
She explained: "It's set in Venezuela, you play a mercenary and fuel is used as a currency."
But one local resident was less than impressed.
The woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "What an extraordinary thing to do, it's totally irresponsible. I can't believe they've been allowed to do it.
"This area is usually very quiet but look at it now, there's cars queuing everywhere. It's just creating unnecessary problems."
Its funny what people get like when they are offered something for free. Pretty pathetic really that they had to have security guards there to protect against rowdy customers.

Everybody likes free stuff, but this always happens..look at the first days of sales after xmas for an example.
Cool idea for advertising the game. Wondering did anyone pick it up yet. got it earlier and played for about an hour. Not a lover of the controls, similar to GTA 4 but so far its pretty easy.
Now if I could figure out how to unlock the stupid helicopter pilot I would be flying.
I've playing it a bit over the weekend as well Random. Its pretty funny at times. Myself and Adam have tried the Co-Op and its a blast.
The map is huge and you can buy helicopters tanks etc etc. Some of the missions are way to easy, but the challenges the various people give you are tough.
Graphics aint great but its good for a laugh especially if you have someone on your friends list with the game for some Co-Op. So far I can only play with someone if I invite them opr they invite me from the friends list.
There are a ton of side missions like Just Cause so there are many hours of killing and blowing stuff up.

I have to say graphics are pretty cack alright but blowing up buildings and anything you can see makes up for this.
I have to agree with you on mission Difficulty, there is not a progression in the difficulty curve. For Example: You would expect the start missions to be easy and then get gradually harder as you go through game but its like the missions are random difficulty.
