Yeah at least its a 2 hour special. What are the chances that this will be the end of it all. I suppose there are another 20 seasons lined up

No, there isn't 20 seasons left.

The producers and the network came to a compromise at the end of last season. The network wanted 6 seasons but the producers wanted 5. The compromise was 6 shorter seasons.

They have a very specific plan laid out for how it is to finish and an exact number of episodes. That is why when the writers strike hit this year they expanded season 5 & 6 by one episode each to catch up on what they missed in this season.

There is roughly 38 episodes left altogether.

Thats still far too many. They should just finish it and be done with it. They have dragged it out long enough imo. A lot of people have stopped watching it because not much happens anymore. Well apart from the last two episodes.

I got bored of it in the 2nd season, nothing happens in it except the last few episodes of the season yawn.

It was a pretty good episode. Im getting bored of it though at this stage.
The only reason I keep watching it is to maybe find out what its all about. A few of the questions have been answered but there are still loads left.

There is an interesting little snippet from one of the writers of Lost below:

In the same way that a gladiator in the Roman arena lived or died based on whether or not he was entertaining, we feel like an instantaneous thumbs up, thumbs down response is huge for us. More importantly, the majority of the writers on Lost are fanboys. There's a ripple effect that occurs where we say, "Nikki and Paolo are not working. We don't like them, the audience isn't going to like them." By the time the audience starts complaining about Nikki and Paolo, we've already written a script where they get buried alive.

In the paragraph below they talk about Mr. Eko. I had always assumed he was going to play a large role in the series and it appears the writers thought so too. Shame they had to get rid of him.
