| Free Music Search Engine Forget this Qtrax crap as it seems to be nonsense (downloaded it) This was one of the bookmarks however. Its free and legal as long as you only use it for content that isn't copyrighted which I know all of you will do. SkreemR Mp3 Search - World's Greatest Mp3 Search |

| hey brim, took a quick look at that 'SkreemR Mp3 Search' and seems pretty good, theres any amount of sites like that, but most are rubbish. i judge them by doing a search for an irish artist, if ya get results back it means there is a broad selection of music not just mainstream.

| like i say just took a quick look, im in work at the moment, and the IT guys go nuts whenever we download stuff. Its a good site, i did a search for Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova's song "Falling Slowly".it was there, all songs can be sampled first, then theres a rating system for the quality of mp3s by other users. also did a search for bands that can be hard to find on other sites, vega 4, we are scientiests, the cribs, air traffic, cathy davey, hundred reasons, killswitch engage., they were all there. it doesnt have all songs by the artists, but def worth a search, not much more i can say about it for now, brim prob knows more since he found it.

I will delete the thread if I think it crosses any line and even though I started it, I'll back up any decision by another mod or Easy to remove this thread because the nature of its content can easily be used to breach copyright laws which the site can't be seen to be supporting. Just want to get that out there so hopefully everyone understands the limits of discussion on this thread. Non-copyright only content should be downloaded using these sites. Happy surfing ![]() |

| Ah yes good old skreemr? I new about this place for quite a long time, oh and many more, but very dodgy ground indeed Brim. You know as well as I do most will use to download illegal music. What they do with their time has noting to do with me, just as long as it doesn't bring this sites reputation into question?

I don't believe its up to the site to police what people use other websites for. Nor do I believe in censoring methods of finding shared content because some people use it for illegal downloads. I'm completely against giving into the music and video industry on this because it restricts the sharing of shared music. It suits them to try to restrict access to freely shared music because it helps protect their industry which recycles the same crap every few years anyway. This severely damages peoples ability to freely distribute their music and damages culture. For if they restrict our methods of sharing our content with each other, all we are left with is what the marketing/record companies decide we should listen to. It is wrong IMO that any government in any way supports restrictions on technologies such as P2P or search engines based on the assumption that it will be used for illegal purposes. Its like banning cars on the assumption that everyone will speed. They can detect high bandwidth users very easily on networks and go after them without damaging the distribution of free content over existing mechanisms. My views are completely supported by a link to the book on Free Culture that I posted a few weeks back. I can't find it here but I also posted it on ATC (Board Message). Its a free download from the writers website with the publishers permission to distribute it online freely. Ignoring all of the above, there are far more efficient methods with a wider range of available illegal content than these search engines. These search engines crawl the web for freely available MP3 downloads. They are a central system for freely available content to be searched and many (dare I say most) of the content in these engines will most likely be non-copyrighted content being distributed intentionally free of charge with no limitations on the use of the content. That's my take on the subject. I don't see why someone would use this for downloading illegal content over bit torrent or some other P2P technology which offer much wider libraries and are more likely to have what users are actually searching for. edit---- I'd also like to add that although the music industry would have you believe that it is wrong to support these technologies no matter what you use them for which misleading information. They also try to bully people into taking down these links with lawsuits they could never win if taken to court but that websites can't afford to fight. On top of this, they state that you may not backup for music and try to enforce this with DRM which restricts you and tries to prevent you making back ups of your music which you are entitled to do under EU law.
