Macs are a rip off and the idea that you should use a Mac for photo editing is a bit outdated at this stage as Photoshops code is no optimized for Windows. If your in a band, a Mac is a great idea because it has a lot of the tools you'll want installed already and is better layed out for that kind of thing. I don't really think that's the case with graphics creation anymore. The market has shifted to Windows for that. All our designers in work use Photoshop on a Windows machine. We have a Mac but nobody uses it.

I suggested the mac due to the fact they were going to spend the money required for a decent machine anyway, and to my Knowlage it is the preferred choice by a lot of people that do photo editing. Also as brim says they do come loaded with a lot of good software. But on the other side of it, its a new OS that the person needs to get used to.

I wouldn't recommend a Mac because you'd have to learn how to use the OS which is a pain in the butt. There will inevitably be things about OSX you wouldn't like so if you weren't enthusiastic about the opportunity to try out a new OS, your probably not going to like it. Fuzzy a lot of them might use Macs but its probably because they have been using them for years or because they want to be seen to be using Macs because of the whole, designers/photographers/musicians use Mac's thing that some people feel the need to be a part of. There is no logical reason to use a Mac over a Pc for photo editing. It is purely preference at this stage.

That depends on the person really. Its not that intuitive if you've been dealing with Windows all your life.

I switched over to a Mac late last year after using Windows machines all my life and I have to say I won't go back to a Windows machine. Right now I can't think of something off the top of my head that I don't like about the Mac. That's not to say there isn't something, I just can't think of it now. I found the OS really easy to get to grips with. At the end of the day OSX and Windows are basically the same. People say the lack of a right click on the Mac is a pain (true) but it is easily changed in the preferences menu giving you the right click functionality.
