Eircom Speed Increases

I found this on Boards .ie. I have been following the BT Speed increase for some time as I have the 3Mb package from them including phone line rental.

If I read this right, and if it is true anyone on Eircom BB or BT broadband with line rental will be upgraded automatically. I like peeps views on this to see IF I am reading this correct.

Linky Eircom confirm Speed Increases - boards.ie

Well BT are a re seller so once eircom upgrade your exchange and offer the faster speeds BT will have the same.

I just hope my exchange is upgraded to adsl 2 so I can get the faster speeds!

Its because a lot of the people with 1Mbps broadband are on it because its all their line can handle. If they gave those people a speed increase they'd just get lots of complaints.

In order to get the full 7.whatever Mbps you have to be in ADSL2 area with an ADSL2 compatible modem/router (not all eircom routers are ADSL2 compatible) and your line has to be capable of taking 7.2Mbps so you have to be near enough the exchange to get it.

One of my pals was getting ADSL2 in Oz - i was giving his some advice - mentioned his speed was dependent upon distance from his exchange and that anything less than 1km should be fairly good.

His distance.............60 metres......................zoom........

Didn't even bother upgrading his firmware on his Dstink, or checking whether he'd been given an ADSL2 filter. 19mb download...
