Downloadable Content

This morning, gamers who bought the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II can download their first new song packs as well as other Guitar Hero content to customize their Xbox LIVE space. Three song packs, which contain three songs and cost 500 Microsoft Points each (about $6.25 US), can now be purchased through the in-game Store option. The three song packs, which all feature content originally featured in the original PS2 version of Guitar Hero, are:

Song Pack 1: Ace of Spades (Motorhead)
Bark at the Moon (Ozzy Osbourne)
Hey You (The Exies)

Song Pack 2: Frankenstein (Edgar Winter Group)
Killer Queen (Queen)
Take It Off (The Donnas)

Song Pack 3: Higher Ground (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Infected (Bad Religion)
Stellar (Incubus)

All the songs have been upgraded to work in the Guitar Hero II engine, taking advantage of advanced hammer-ons and pull-offs, as well as having new bass and rhythm tracks added for co-op play. Once purchased, songs appear under a new "Downloaded Tracks" category at the bottom of the Guitar Hero setlist. Also, scores from the downloaded tracks add to a player's overall leaderboard total, which will undoubtedly provide some incentive to shredders looking to improve their standing.

Along with the new song packs, a Guitar Hero II theme is available for 150 Microsoft Points, and two sets of Guitar Hero II picture packs, with six icons each, are now available for 100 Microsoft Points. We're expecting this will only be the beginning of regular Guitar Hero II downloads, so check back regularly for the latest on Red Octane's rocker.
